Who Hugo Represents
Hugo Gamez represents people, not companies — hourly and minimum-wage employees, service and warehouse workers, office staff, managers, and executives alike. Whatever your job pays, the same California employment laws protect you, and Hugo can help you understand and enforce them.
From minimum-wage and hourly jobs to the C-suite. You don't have to be an executive to have a case worth reviewing.
Hurt at work and your employer refused to accommodate you, made the injury worse, retaliated, or fired you for it? That may be illegal.
Fired for the wrong reasons, discriminated against, harassed, or punished for speaking up — these may be violations of California law.
How Hugo Can Help
Every matter begins the same way: a confidential look at your documents and your goals, followed by a clear plan — a stronger exit package, or holding an employer accountable.
Before you sign, understand what you're giving up — and what may still be negotiable.
Learn more →If you were fired in violation of the law or public policy, you may be owed far more than the severance they offered.
Learn more →California protects you from adverse treatment based on who you are — age, race, sex, disability, pregnancy, religion, and more.
Learn more →Punished for reporting wrongdoing, harassment, or unpaid wages? Retaliation for protected reports is illegal under California law.
Learn more →A hostile work environment is unlawful — and documenting it early makes all the difference to your case.
Learn more →Earned a bonus, commission, or vesting stock and never received it? Those amounts may be recoverable.

Meet Hugo Gamez
The firm's practice is limited to the employee's side — Hugo Gamez does not represent employers. He has represented California employees since 2011, and approaches each matter the same way: prepare it carefully, give the client an honest assessment of where they stand, and work toward a fair resolution through negotiation or, when necessary, litigation.
Working with clients across California from an office in Century City, Hugo handles each matter personally. He has been selected to Super Lawyers each year from 2024 through 2026 and represents clients in both English and Spanish.
Representative Results
A sample of results the firm has obtained for employees — more than $3.7 million in verdicts and settlements. Amounts are grouped by claim type to protect client confidentiality, and prior results never guarantee a similar outcome.
The jury verdict also included more than $650,000 in attorneys' fees, costs on appeal, and six-figure prejudgment interest — awarded after beating the Plaintiff's CCP §998 offer to compromise.
Results reflect verdicts and settlements in specific matters and are grouped by claim type to protect client confidentiality. Prior results do not guarantee or predict a similar outcome in any future matter; every case depends on its own facts. This website may be considered attorney advertising.
How It Works
Send in your severance agreement or a short summary of what happened. Hugo will review it and give you a candid read on where you stand — no cost, no obligation.
You'll talk through your goals, your options, what your matter is realistically worth, and exactly how fees would work — so you can decide with confidence.
Hugo negotiates directly with your employer or their lawyers, and is prepared to litigate when that's the right path to a fair resolution.
On a deadline to sign?
Severance offers usually come with a short window and language that can sign away your rights. A short review can help you understand what you're being asked to sign, and whether it's fair, before the deadline passes.
Common Questions
Often, yes. Severance is frequently negotiable, though it depends on your circumstances. Employers usually present a first offer expecting a counter, and your tenure, the circumstances of your exit, any potential legal claims, and unvested equity can all be relevant. The important thing is getting advice before you sign, because the release you sign typically ends your ability to negotiate.
California is an at-will state, so not every unfair firing is illegal. But a termination is unlawful when it's based on a protected characteristic, done in retaliation for protected activity, in breach of a contract, or in violation of public policy. If any of that rings true, it's worth a conversation.
Your first case review is free and confidential. Many matters are handled on a contingency basis — you pay no attorney's fee unless there's a recovery. Some severance reviews and advice can be handled on a flat fee, while severance negotiation often involves hourly billing for the work performed, or a contingency–hourly hybrid, depending on the agreement reached with the firm. In some matters, clients may also be responsible for case costs and expenses. The firm will explain exactly how fees and costs work for your situation before you commit to anything.
Discretion is central to the firm's approach. Everything you share is treated confidentially, and executive matters are handled with real care for your reputation, your references, and your future opportunities. Nothing gets filed or disclosed without discussing it with you first.
